Things to Do in Gower

Now, Gower might not be the biggest name in UK travel at the moment, but I assure you, it’s up and coming.  Moreover, it’s  a great destination in Wales if you’re hoping to avoid some of the crowds.  Moreover, with plenty of very reasonably priced self catering holiday homes in Gower, there is plenty of room in the budget for other activities or longer stays than you might think you could afford otherwise.  However, don’t let the decent prices and relative under-travelled nature of Gower throw you off.  There’s plenty to do in this part of coastal Wales.

Llandudno, Wales

Rhosili Bay

This is not only one of the best things to do and see on the Gower Peninsula, but also one of the best in all of the UK.  Rhosili Bay is absolutely paradise and one of the most beautiful places on the planet.  You can spend plenty of time hiking along the shore line here, or scampering along the rocks at low tide searching the tide pools.  It really is spectacular.

Pennard Castle

It wouldn’t be a trip to Wales without a visit to one of the famous Welsh castles.  Pennard Castle is impressive and makes for a great visit regardless of whether you’re 8 or 80.  If you do go, and plan to visit many more of the UK’s historic sites, be sure to inquire about getting a monthly pass, as they are well worth it.

Surfing

Yes, you can surf in Gower.  However, you’re going to want to put on a wet suit as the water temperatures around here aren’t exactly tropical.  The waves here, though, are quite decent and they since they aren’t incredibly imposing it actually makes it a great place to learn.  If you’re a  bit more of an extreme surfer, you might want to try coming out here in the winter time as winter storms create bigger and heavier waves.

Perriswood Falconry Center

Ever wanted to hold a falcon on your arm, or watch one fly around your head at close range?  It’s all possible just outside of Gower at a place called the Perriswood Falconry Center.  It’s also a great place to bring children to teach them about the need to protect the important bird’s of prey.

Clyne Gardens

One of the more beautiful botanical gardens in the Uk, Clyne Gardens are especially beautiful in the spring months when all the flowers are in their bloom stage.  That being said, year round the gardens make for a nice place to wander, relax, or enjoy a touch of manicured nature.
