Best Rural Places in the World to PhotographBrendan van SonSeptember 23, 2014Travel Photography Blog0 Comments 0 With lots of travellers focusing on the major urban cities of the world like London, Paris, and New York, the great rural regions of the world often go way overlooked. Of course, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a large part of the population that wants nothing more than to get away from the cities and crowds of the world and escape to the simple life of the countryside. In fact, there’s a resurgence of late in a brand of travel called “cottage travel”. If that sounds like the type of travel you’d be into, check out some of my top spots in the world worth checking out.The Forest of Dean, EnglandUp in the county of Gloucestershire, the Forest of Dean is the prefect retreat for people looking to get out of the urban areas of England. It’s also one of the most impressive old growth forests left in England, making it as impressive as it is an escape. There are picturesque rural self-catering holiday cottages to be had throughout the park that combine the peace and solitude of a cottage holiday with the comfort of luxury travel. In England, there is nowhere better to get away.Kananaskis Country, CanadaKananaskis Country doesn’t get a lot of attention internationally because it’s so close to massive tourism destinations like Banff and Canmore. However, locals know that this is the place to get away from it all. The best part of Kananaskis is that you’re never too far from a minor adventure, either. In the summer months, you’ll be near one of the best golf courses in Canada, as well as a lake where you can try paddle boarding, and a river to try rafting. Of course, this is also ranch country, so if you’re up for it you can go on a horse ride. In the winter, you hit up Nakiska, one of the premier skiing destinations in the Rockies, and one that’s way less crowded than places like Lake Louse.Anywhere in MongoliaMongolia is the least densely populated country on the planet, so it’s likely more difficult to have an urban holiday than it is a rural adventure. Outside of the capital, there is really only rural. Although you’re not going to get a luxury experience like you might in the other destinations on this list, you’ll get a truly unique experience. You’ll be sleeping in a ger and eating homemade cheese with local Mongolians. You’ll get to see them milking their horses, or maybe you can help them cook up a goat. There’s really no experience like it.South Luangwa National Park, ZambiaOne of the cooler national parks in Southern Africa, South Luangwa is also one of the calmer parks. There aren’t the massive amounts of tourists like you might find somewhere like Kruger National Park. Moreover, the experience is perhaps more intimate. The lodges are often not “closed” to the wildlife. At times, you can have a herd of elephants walk right around your accommodation. The best part is that for a fair price, your lodge is absolute luxury. It’s an experience you just can’t replicate anywhere else in the world.Where to you want to escape to?
