The Set Up

Punta del Este is one of the most visited beach towns in all of South America.  It is famous for Brava Beach which has been nicknamed Bikini Beach.  The city swells in population during the South American holidays and is a great place to spend a couple of days swimming, surfing, shopping, or just relaxing.  The city really is a great place to party or relax, and as a bonus if you’re a photographer, it’s a great place to shoot as it has a couple really photogenic scenes and usually gets some great light.  Personally, I could easily go back to Punta del Este for some more photo sessions.

The Shot

I made the most classic mistake in the shooting this evening of photography: I forgot to pack my extra battery.  Right as the light got absolutely perfect my battery died.  This shot was the last one I got.  Unfortunately, after this shot the sky put on a beautiful light show and I missed it as I sprinted back to the hostel to get another battery.  Remember, always pack extra batteries.  The best thing you can do when you go out shooting is to take a picture before you leave and then do a walkthrough to make sure that everything is working and you have a bunch of backup equipment.  It saves a number of potential headaches.
