What do you think of when you think of Europe?  Me, I think of stone-built castles perched atop a dramatic hill.  I think about winding cobbled streets full of the smells of bakeries and florists.  But most of all, I think about the beautiful waterways that dance throughout the continent.  In Europe, water means some of the most important cities and some of the most beautiful destinations.  Whether on a river or within a sea, cruising the waters of Europe is one of the best ways to enjoy the continent.

The Rhine

The seas aren’t the only way to cruise in Europe.  One can find river cruises throughout Europe, and one of the most popular destinations on the continent is the famous Rhine river.  Along the Rhine, you’ll get to spend time in the historic cities of Amsterdam and Basel, and when you’re not exploring the river’s edge, you’ll find watching the world go by from the balcony of your boat to be one of the best experiences on the planet.

The Mediterranean

The Mediterranean is perhaps the classic European cruise.  The Med is one of the busiest cruise circuits on the planet, and for good reason.  From the shores of Italy to the beautiful arid coastline of Greece, it doesn’t get much better than a cruise through the Mediterranean.  Moreover, there are plenty of options for this region.  One could cruise through here on a budget just as easily as they could do it on luxury.

The Adriatic

One of the hottest travel destinations of 2013, The Adriatic Sea is home to some of the most dramatic coastlines on the planet.  Croatia in particular is one of the biggest draws to the region and one moment’s sight of cities like Dubrovnik will tell you why.  Sit on your cruise ship sipping local wines or popping olives, and then spend your days ashore soaked in history and glory either Italy or the Balkans.

The Danube

Another one of the river cruisese, The Danube is one of the most underrated cruise locations in Europe.  Most likely starting in Prague, trips up and down this river are straight out of the story books.  The rivers are lines with rolling hills, quaint villages, and even some ancient castles.  This is one of the world’s best cruises.
