Europe is a great place to be, don’t get me wrong. However, there is nothing like getting away to the bright warmth of a beautiful chunk of island paradise. Despite the fact that most people might think of places like the Caribbean and South-East Asia when they think of Island getaways, there are plenty of places to visit within a short flight of Europe. If you’re looking to get away from the grasp of Europe and enjoy a little bit of sun and sand, but don’t want to fly around the world, I have listed a couple great options for you.

Especially coming from Spain and France, Majorca is a great option. Being so close to the mainland, Majorca means that it can be done on a simple weekend without too much time spent in the air. The simple fact that it is so close means that cheap holidays to Majorca are readily available.  Much like the other islands in the region, like Ibiza, Majorca is a bit of a party animal.  But if you’re looking for a quiet getaway, there are also plenty of places to hide away and grab some R&R.  If you’re looking for deals on holidays there, you might want to check out Directline-holidays.

Cape Verde

For those who are looking for a little bit more of an adventurous vacation from Europe, Cape Verde is a great choice.  Yes, you’ll have to travel a little bit farther, but you’ll also get a little bit more of an adventure as well.  Personally, I love getting to places like Cape Verde even more than I do beach getaways.  For me, the beach is beautiful, but I get bored with it almost instantly.   You definitely won’t get bored in Cape Verde as there are hikes, kayaking trips, waterfalls, and pretty much anything else you can imagine to keep you occupied.  If you’re more like me, you’ll love Cape Verde.

If I covered beach, party and adventure getaways with both Majorca and Cape Verde, then Malta covers the historical destination.  Malta has a deep history rich as anywhere on the mainland.  However, to say that this island only has history couldn’t be further from the truth.  The island is also home to some beautiful landscapes, a couple incredible beaches and there are also some great places to go wildlife watching.
