Music Monday – Thrice’s “In Exile”

Music Monday

It is amazing sometimes how when we throw our Ipod on, or we are sitting in a car listening to the radio, how often we hear a song that just fits what we’re going through in our own lives. And yes, cynics will always point out that when you are going through something in life you will automatically relate everything to yourself. It’s some sort of psychosomatic effort at ego-centricism, or something like that. But regardless of all that, I have found that in travel, especially, we find ourselves drawn to different songs or music for whatever reason. Music has a way of sucking out our inner sentiments and thoughts, sometimes drawing things that we never realized we were thinking. A song that I have been pulling up on my Ipod time and time again lately is Thrice’s In Exile. I have been listening to Thrice since they first started printing records, and I have always been drawn to the lyrics of lead man Dustin Kensrue. In manyways, I feel like I have grown right along with their music. So this week, as a memento to the words that have always found a way to crack my inner thoughts, I am going to share their lyrics for “In Exile,” and I urge you to hop onto Itunes and purchase this, and many of their songs!

Thrice
In Exile

I am in exile, a sojourner
A citizen of some other place
All I’ve seen is just a glimmer in a shadowy mirror
But I know, one day well see face to face

I am a nomad, a wanderer
I have nowhere to lay my head down
There’s no point in putting roots too deep when I’m moving on
Not settling for this unsettling town

My heart is filled with songs of forever
The city that endures when all is made new
I know I don’t belong here, I’ll never
Call this place my home, I’m just passing through

I am a pilgrim, a voyager
I wont rest until my lips touch the shore
Of the land that I’ve been longing for as long as I’ve lived
Where they’ll be no pain or tears anymore

My heart is filled with songs of forever
The city that endures when all is made new
I know I don’t belong here, I’ll never
Call this place my home, I’m just passing through
