Plitvice Lakes
This is a pretty typical trail through the upper part of the park. I really wish we had more time to spend here!

Photos of Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

As you know, I wasn’t exactly happy about the organization of Plitvice Lakes.  I wrote yesterday about how the infrastructure of this national park that pulls over 1.1 million visitors a year is nowhere near what it should be.  Rather than a fantastic place to wander and explore, it is a mission to get around the park, and Plitvice Lakes is in grand need of infrastructure improvements.

Obviously, I wasn’t trying to deter anyone from visiting, I was just hoping that some attention would be brought to light here so that adjustments are made at the park.

Plitvice Lakes
When we were at Plitvice Lakes a good part of the walking trail was under water. Some sections, like this one, were still passable, others were 2 or 3 feet under.

That being said, there are few places more incredible in Europe.  Once you get around all the barriers of Plitvice, you see the vast amounts on beauty found here in the park.  It really is one of the most stunning places on the planet.  There are streams of perfect green water shooting out of each and ever slope, where the land is flat there are still lakes, and in the forests there is a perfect peace.

Where the trails don’t go past waterfalls in Plitvice, they go past beautiful lakes like this one.

My time in Plitvice Lakes was marred by both struggles to get around the infrastructure as well as some bad weather, but I still managed to fire off the shutter of my camera quite a bit.

Below, you’ll find a quick selection of my photos of Plitvice Lakes taken in the fall colours.

Plitvice Lakes
This was in the lower part of the park near the big waterfall, which was inaccessible when we were there.
Plitvice Lakes
I love these bits of the park where the water was flowing directly under the paths. I’m fairly sure it was just due to the high water when we were there, but it was very cool, regardless.

Although the weather was terrible, it made a cool atmosphere along some of the trails, especially with the fall colours.

The park, in all the rain, looked like it could easily come apart and float away.
