It really is a shame that the name Congo gets such a bad rap. People make so many assumptions about the Congo while knowing absolutely nothing about it. Ask most about the Congo and they’ll tell you it’s a country covered in jungle destroyed by constant war. The truth, however, is much different. Although there have been conflicts, the majority of the country is completely safe. Moreover, there’s not a whole lot of jungle either. You’ll find rolling hills and savannas; there are also beautiful canyons and plateaus. Sure, you’ll find jungle, but it is sparse. The beauty of the Congo rests with the people. The Congolese are beyond friendly. As you pass through villages they’ll wave with two hands as if one isn’t welcome enough, and you’ll constantly hear shrieks of welcome. Sure, you’ll encounter some tough roads, but believe me when I tell you, the Congo is not what you think it is, and that’s a good thing.
